The Tours for Humanity Story
Ever since Lisa’s battle with cancer, we wanted to do something meaningful to fight the disease and make the world better in general. We’re avid fundraisers and wanted to stop struggling to find ways to deliver a lump sum to our favorite charities at some hazy point in the future. Why should helping people be part time?
We shouldn’t be forced to separate any of our life’s ambitions whether it’s personal, professional, or philanthropic. We want to give every day of our lives. The more we give, the more we live.
In that spirit, we decided to combine our passions of history, business, and giving to create a social enterprise. Tours for Humanity uses history to help people. We provide walking tours of Washington, DC such as the National Mall, Arlington Cemetery, Capitol Hill, and many more. At the end of the year, our company donates a portion of profits to charities combating ignorance, poverty, and disease. Every part of our company, right down to our uniforms, does good in the world. Our goal is to harness the power of business for good.
“5 stars aren’t enough for these amazing people! Lisa and Bo were fantastic and you felt as if you were touring DC with friends.”Angela M., Facebook Reviews
“I’ve never been one to take guided tours, usually preferring to do a self-guided or audio tour, but I can’t overstate how much my experience with Bo and Lisa elevated our entire vacation.”Steve M., Trip Advisor Review
“Their stellar tour makes me convinced they’ll succeed as a company; their ambition and social commitment make me root for them along the way!”Andrew G., Trip Advisor
“We especially loved Tours for Humanity’s unique mission to give to charities and help the less fortunate. Besides being one of the best tour guides that I have ever encountered, the company itself is also one of a kind in its field.”Grant H., Trip Advisor
Where We Give
Tours for Humanity gives a portion of its profits to three charities, each with a mission to fight ignorance, poverty or disease.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world’s largest nonprofit health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, as well as providing education and patient services. Tours for Humanity proudly supports LLS in honor of our co-founder’s battle with lymphoma.
Honor Flight provides veterans from around the country with a trip to Washington, DC to visit the capital’s monuments and memorials. Veterans on an Honor Flight trip can often be spotted along our tours, especially at the Changing of the Guard ceremony at Arlington Cemetery.
Ashoka provides startup financing, professional support services, and a platform for people dedicated to changing the world. Ashoka is the largest network of social entrepreneurs worldwide, with nearly 3,000 Ashoka Fellows in 70 countries putting their system changing ideas on a global scale. Tours for Humanity couldn’t resist supporting social entrepreneurs committed to using business for good.
